Purchasing Manager to Technical Operations

Stena Line is one of the world’s largest ferry companies and has Europe’s most comprehensive route network with routes in Scandinavia, around the UK and the Baltics. Stena Line employs approximately 5 600 people, the majority working with service and sales. Every year Stena Line transports 14 million passengers, about 3 million cars and 2 million freight units.

Main responsibilities

As purchasing manager, you are responsible for ensuring that procedures, processes as well as the operational and long-term work in the purchasing department is organized and conducted in an efficient and commercial manner. Your main responsibilities are:

  • Manage, lead and develop the purchasing department consisting of about 5 purchasers
  • Creation and maintenance of the approved supplier list as well as update categorization and status based on supplier performance
  • Negotiation and agreement of contracts and monitoring of their progress, check of the quality of service provided
  • Coordination and collaboration with other purchasing departments in the Stena Sphere to achieve economies of scale
  • Collaboration with the Maritime Safety Department and Environmental Coordinator to ensure that the selection of products match the company’s established requirements for safety and environment

Who are you?

You have several years of experience from working with purchase and contractual agreements. You have worked as a leader and are used to having personnel responsibility. Experience from shipping and an international business environment is a merit.

As a person you have a strong ability to lead and inspire others. You have a commercial and process oriented approach and a high degree of result orientation as well as an ability to communicate effectively. You facilitate and encourage collaboration and you easily establish good relationships, both inside and outside of the organization. You also have a strong ability to work independently. 

We expect you to have a good knowledge of MS Office. Since English is our corporate language and we work in an international environment, we expect you to be fluent in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. A university degree in economics, technology or shipping is a merit.

The position and placing

The position is a permanent employment with admission as soon as possible. As Purchasing Manager you will lead a team of 5-7 employees and report to Stena Line’s Technical Operations Director. You will be based at Stena Lines Head office in Gothenburg.
