Instructor – Offshore operations and dynamic positioning

Shipping and Marine Technology covers a wide research field, ranging from environmental research to the development of the latest technologies for propulsion and navigation of ships. Our research aims to improve ship efficiency, marine environment, and working conditions for the ship personnel.

We educate master mariners, marine engineers, and shore-based personnel in shipping. The department currently has about 100 employees, of whom 80 are researchers and teachers.

The department is situated on the expansive Campus Lindholmen. 

We have Sweden’s most extensive simulator centre for marine transportation and navigation.



Information about the division


The division for Maritime Operations organizes both education and research which includes activities as the programmes for master mariner and marine engineers. The offshore sector is evolving and includes today not only oil and gas but also renewable energy as wind and wave. We have several ongoing offshore related projects focusing on operational issues as well as design and structure questions. There is an increasing demand for development and systematic analysis of offshore operations in combination with education and training activities. 

In order to further develop and ensure our competence within the offshore sector and safety of navigation we are looking for suitable candidates.



Job description


Your major responsibility as an instructor is education for bachelor students and maritime professionals, primarily in the field of Dynamic Positioning (DP) and offshore operations. You are expected to participate in the development of offshore related training topics and advanced maritime operations. You are a part of our team of instructors and you will also be included in other nautical courses such as navigation principles, navigation systems and bridge team management. The position includes participation in different offshore related research and innovation projects.

The position as instructor focusing on offshore activities is interesting and stimulating if you would like to broaden your knowledge and work with the future of advanced maritime operations and safety of navigation. You will be educated to meet the instructor requirements as laid down by Nautical Institute. As employed there are possibilities for higher education as a part of our competence development scheme.  



Qualifications


To qualify as an instructor, you must have a bachelor´s level degree or higher in a relevant field and experience as a deck officer at management level (STCW II/2, Chief mate). You have a Nautical institute DPO unlimited certificate and at least one year experience serving on DP vessels as DPO. Experience from educational activities is an advantage. The position requires an ability to be cooperative and socially active in professional situations in order to establish and maintain relationships. Sound verbal and written communication skills in English are desirable.
